Message from the Headteacher, Mr Richards

Year 10s have started their work experience placements this week and we are really proud of how they are conducting themselves and excited to hear about their new-found skills and confidence on their return. Keeping to the theme of business, year 12s also took part in a financial workshop on Monday supporting them for their futures. Several end of year trips have gone out including year 9s to Chessington today and year 13s had their end of school prom yesterday evening at the Riverside Venue.

We had a very productive Governor strategy day on Monday where we closed the current three-year school development plan and made exciting plans for the school’s future. The feedback that many families and pupils gave us over the course of the year have strongly fed into this process so we will share more in the new Academic year.

We had a celebratory lunch on Tuesday for our 50th Year of Villiers, complete with a lovely chocolate cake. We’ve really enjoyed celebrating this milestone over the course of the year including burying a time capsule, creating commemorative badges and the special lunch. Here’s to Villiers in 2076!

Our end of term is Friday 17th July and all pupils will finish at 12.30pm. Term will start for new year 7s and 12s Thursday 3rd September and all other pupils will return on Friday 4th September.

Thrive School

Villiers High School is proud to be officially recognised as a Thrive School. This achievement reflects our ongoing commitment to embedding the Thrive Approach across our school and supporting the social and emotional development of all children and young people in our care.

As part of this commitment, the Thrive Approach will be integrated into our mentoring programme to further enhance the support available to students, helping them to build resilience, emotional wellbeing, and positive relationships.

We are also delighted to announce that Mr Silva is our Thrive Wellbeing Practitioner, who will play a key role in delivering Thrive-informed support and interventions across the school.

Changes within our team

Construction work continues

We write to inform you that building works have commenced to improve the school estate and the learning environment. The B04 expansion project (or ‘the new build’ as we know it) is progressing safely and on schedule, with no disruption to school activities. Groundworks continue for our new eco-friendly teaching block, which will provide modern classrooms, science laboratories and sustainable learning facilities to support future generations of Villiers pupils.

The school estate comprises a number of older buildings which, in common with many public service buildings, have an element of asbestos in their construction. The school already had a robust system in place for managing asbestos on a day-to-day basis in line with Health and Safety Executive (HSE ) regulations. During the building work, the school will put in place additional steps to ensure that students, staff and visitors are safe.

The school and its governing body take the health and safety of students, staff and visitors very seriously and are very excited about the impact that the new building will have on the pupils’ experiences of learning.

Thank you so much for your generosity and continued support of our school community.

Aspire Students – Rooted to Rise

We are delighted and incredibly proud to share that our Aspire students recently participated in “Rooted to Rise”, an inspiring project facilitated by students from the Royal College of Art. Over a six-week period, our students worked closely with the project team, contributing their ideas, experiences, and perspectives to explore themes of studio. The project provided a valuable opportunity for students to develop their confidence, creativity, communication, and teamwork skills while helping to shape meaningful outcomes that reflect the experiences of young people in education. Throughout the programme, our students demonstrated outstanding commitment, enthusiasm, and maturity, and we are extremely proud of the positive contribution they made. In recognition of their hard work and dedication, each student was awarded a certificate and badge. We would like to thank the Royal College of Art team for providing such a rewarding and empowering experience for our Aspire students.

Last Thursday, the Student Leadership Team held a Summer Fair to raise money for Cancer Research. Thanks to their hard work, and the support of staff and students, the event raised over £600.

A big thank you to everyone who got involved and helped make the day such a success. Please see the attached photos.

Deirdre’s Summer School for Parliament: A 4-Day Journey

Students from Villiers School were recently selected for a highly prestigious work experience placement at Deirdre’s Summer School for Parliament. Over an intensive four days, our students stepped out of the classroom and directly into the corridors of power, experiencing first hand and what it takes to run campaigns.  Some of the task included:

  • Q&As with multiple MPs, councillors, and London assembly members
  • Touring, learning the history of, and working in Parliament
  • Learning how to create a strong campaign, building that campaign, and making campaign videos
  • Budgeting and creating a solution within our (made up) parties for fly tipping in Southall
  • Creating individual speeches and delivering them in a committee room in the House of Commons in front of judges during a mock parliamentary debate
  • Touring 10 Downing street and city hall (where the mayor works)
  • Sitting in on a debate in the House of Commons and in City Hall for the London Assembly

Deirdre Costigan’s MP 2026 Summer School

We are incredibly proud of Yousef , who recently participated in the prestigious MP Summer School. Hosted by Deirdre Costigan, the Member of Parliament for Ealing Southall, the initiative aims to encourage young people to get involved in politics and learn how to run campaigns that drive real change in their local communities.

The intensive four-day programme ran from Monday 29th June to Thursday 2nd July. It featured exciting visits to the Houses of Parliament, the Greater London Authority, and Ealing Council.

Throughout the week, Yousef had the unique opportunity to meet politicians, campaigners, and senior local decision-makers. Working collaboratively with peers, he helped design a campaign on an issue he cares about.

Royal Holloway University of London: 2026 Summer Residential programme

Some of our Year 12 students were able to attend the Royal Holloway University of London: 2026 Summer Residential programme. This is the statement from one of the students:

The programme offered a brilliant taste of higher education, balancing rigorous academic sessions with a vibrant introduction to campus culture. Led by expert university lecturers, we dived into taster sessions showcasing Law, Politics, and Economics, giving us a firsthand look at university-level study.

Beyond the lecture theatres, the experience was highly social. Through various team activities and dedicated free time, we quickly broke the ice and bonded as a group. We were also given an extensive tour of the campus and accommodation, exploring the student dorms and stepping inside the stunning, historic Founder’s Building.

The grand finale of the week was a high-stakes group challenge: designing and pitching an original event for University Freshers’ Week. Putting our collaboration and public speaking skills to the test, my group delivered a pitch that ultimately won 1st place from the judges.

We departed Royal Holloway not only with our official certificates but with invaluable life skills and a genuinely inspiring insight into university life.

Royal Holloway University

Two of our Year 12 students were able have a over night stay at Royal Holloway, University of London, as apart of the university experience.

This is the testimony of Mithun: “The Royal Holloway residential trip was a transformative experience that gave me a true taste of university independence. From living in student accommodation to attending academic taster sessions, I gained a clear vision of my future pathways. A major highlight was a public speaking masterclass by Loud Speaker, which completely transformed my confidence.

Everything I learned came together during the group innovation project, where my team pitched an on-campus camping event for Freshers’ Week. We won the entire competition, taking home a trophy! The trip developed my leadership and teamwork skills, left me with unforgettable memories, and inspired me to aim for higher education.”

Year 10 Faraday Challenge

On Tuesday 30th June, five of our Year 10 pupils took part in the first Inter-School Faraday Challenge to design a new ride for Thorpe Park. Pupils performed excellently. They worked as a team, each with a specific role including Project manager, electrical engineer, accountant, and communications officer. They designed the ride and built an electrical component of the ride. They then presented their idea to a panel of teachers from the other schools attending. Although they did not win, they performed wonderfully and did us proud. Well done to Hafsa (10I), Shawn (10L), Muntasir (10V), Nashville (10E) and Avneet (10V).

Design and Technology Department Shaping Future Careers

We recently hosted an inspiring Design and Technology Careers Day, giving our pupils hands-on experience alongside industry leaders and creative professionals. We were thrilled to welcome Bulletproof, a world-renowned global design agency. Their team coached our pupils through dynamic, real-world industry challenges including an interactive 3D workshop focused on drinks bottle development, as well as a creative branding session designing their very own ice cream concepts.

The innovation didn’t stop there! We also hosted the University of West London (UWL) Hospitality and Catering team, who turned up the heat with a high-energy “Ready, Steady, Cook” style workshop. Additionally, pupils took a fascinating trip to the International Southall Frontier Raas wedding boutique, where they explored the intricate world of bridal fashion and learned exactly what it means to design apparel for a distinct purpose.

It was an exceptional day filled with creativity, collaboration, and invaluable insights into the diverse pathways of the design and hospitality sectors. A huge thank you to all of our incredible partners for inspiring the next generation of talent!

Year 9 Textiles – Showcase Southall Textile work

Inspired by contemporary artist Grayson Perry, our Year 9 Textiles pupils recently explored how art can reflect our identity and everyday lives. The pupils designed collage vases inspired by their hometown of Southall, blending local symbols with personal memories.

The finished pieces are wonderfully expressive and unique. A huge congratulations to Vanya 9L, whose brilliant artwork truly captures the lively spirit of Southall!

School arrival time

Please note that pupils should not arrive on site before 7.45am. Staff supervision is not available before this time, and this measure is in place to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students. Breakfast club begins at 7.45am and entrance is through gate 6 on Villiers Road only.

Uniform reminders

We would like to remind all parents and carers that, from September 2026 (the start of the 2026/27 academic year) onwards, all pupils will be expected to wear white shirts rather than blue shirts. This change was communicated earlier this year as part of the updates to our school uniform guidance.
