Message from the Headteacher, Mr Richards

You may have seen some rather impressive announcements on our social media pages* this week which came in after we’d published the family bulletin last week. First and foremost, I received an email from the Secretary of State for Education, the Right Honourable Bridget Phillipson MP commending our staff and pupils on “the excellent outcomes the disadvantaged pupils at Villiers High School achieved at the end of the 2024/25 academic year.” She went on to say “Your school’s performance places it among the very best nationally, and this is a significant achievement.” We are delighted that the work both staff and students have put in has been recognised at such a high level.

Also on Friday, our three-day Challenge Partners Quality Assurance Review concluded with an area of excellence accreditation in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the curriculum. This means that our work in this area has been recognised as exceptional practice and will be shared across the UK Challenge Partners network. Other school leaders will want to learn from us so our impact can spread more widely. We await the final report, but feedback across the board was glowing. Many of your children were observed in lessons or met with the reviewers and talked proudly about their education and the setting, so a big thank you to them.

This week we’ve had Creative Careers workshops in year 9, an SEND families’ coffee morning, commemorated Holocaust Memorial Day in assemblies throughout the week, carried on with our Poetry workshops, taken part in the Intermediate maths challenge, run year 9 options evening and today our year 12s visit GSK and take part in the Brilliant Club scholars programme. Next week is the start of LGBTQ+ history month, we have pupils from China visiting us on a cultural exchange, our pupils studying Brass instruments will take part in a workshop on site and perform at Questors Theatre in Ealing on Thursday night (tickets available here), it is year 13 mock results day on Thursday followed by their parents’ evening; KS4 French pupils are going to the BFI and there is another Brilliant Club workshop for year 12s. Never a dull moment!

SEND Coffee Morning

On Monday, we were pleased to host a coffee morning for parents and carers of pupils with SEND in Villiers High School. This was a valuable opportunity for families to meet local support services, including Brigitte Bistrick-Bryan from Contact Ealing, who offer parent workshops, group sessions, walk & talks, and individual advice around finances and children’s needs; Dawn Clegg from Springhallow Autism Outreach, who provide specialist autism support; and Ruhi Bhalla from SENDIASS Ealing, who offer free, confidential, accurate and impartial advice and support to families in Ealing with a child who has special educational needs or a disability. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to such a positive and supportive morning.

GCSE art taster sessions

Year 9 students have been taking part in GCSE art taster sessions in preparation for choosing their GCSE options. The students used carbon paper to create still life drawings inspired by Cubist artists.

Year 10 Update 🌟

Last week, Dr King’s tutor group 10S delivered a truly inspiring assembly on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. The students presented with confidence, thoughtfulness and maturity, and their message was both powerful and timely. We are extremely proud of 10S for showcasing such strong values and representing Year 10 so positively.

We are also delighted to celebrate our Star of the Week nominations, recognising students who consistently demonstrate the Villiers HEART values.

  • In January, Mrs Sharma nominated Danelle (10L) for consistently meeting the Villiers HEART values.
  • Ms Rousseva nominated Muntasir  for consistently expressing the HEART values, and Razia for being polite, considerate and loyal.
  • Dr Rehman nominated Aksiya , Jasneet , and Jace for meeting the Villiers HEART values in their daily conduct.

We congratulate all of these students on their well-deserved recognition and thank them for being such positive role models within the year group.

Year 10 students have also received high praise for their behaviour and conduct. The Headteacher has shared excellent feedback from our Challenge Partners, who spoke directly with some of our Year 10 students. They commented on how confidently students spoke about their learning and how clearly they demonstrated all of the HEART values. This is a real credit to the year group.

As we continue through the term, we remind all students of the importance of punctuality. Arriving at lessons on time is essential for learning and shows respect for staff and peers. Any student who has received a late-comer detention should use this as an opportunity to reflect and make positive improvements going forward.

We are incredibly proud of all Year 10 students and wish them every success in their current assessments this week. Keep up the hard work—your efforts do not go unnoticed!

Parking after school

Since we have joined the Ealing school streets strategy, visitors are not able to drive into Boyd Avenue or Villiers Road between 2:30pm and 3:30pm.  We have had complaints from nearby streets and Avenue Road in particular where driveways are being blocked by people collecting students at the end of the day.  Please be mindful when parking in neighbouring streets and move if requested.

Is my child well enough to go to school?

If your child is feeling unwell and you’re not sure whether to send them in, please read this NHS guidance which will support you in making a decision: https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/is-my-child-too-ill-for-school/

Penalty notice for Unauthorised Attendance

Parent/carers are reminded that if they take their children out of school for 5 days or more (which do not have to be consecutive) in a 10-week period, they will be liable for a penalty notice from Ealing. Currently the amount payable for the 1st penalty notice is £160 per parent/carer per child which reduces to £80 if paid within 21 days.

If a further 5 days of absence without a reasonable explanation occurs, then a 2nd penalty notice of £160 per parent/carer per child will be issued, with no reduction. If the penalty notice remains unpaid after 28 days, Ealing will consider a prosecution in the Magistrates Court. Further absences after this stage could also result in prosecution.

Please note that penalty notices are issued per parent/carer per child, so a family of two parents and two children will receive 4 penalty notices. Please check our term dates on our website to help you avoid taking your child out of school during term time.
