Message from the Headteacher, Mr Richards
We are excited to celebrate Black History Month with our school community this month. There will be a variety of different activities going on in and out of lessons and you will, no doubt, hear about all of them through this bulletin. The theme this year is “Standing firm in power and pride” echoing our values of equity, respect and tenacity. According to their website: “This theme is both a celebration and a challenge. It calls on us to look at the resilience and brilliance of Black communities in Britain while also facing up to the barriers that still exist. To stand firm is to refuse to be moved in the face of adversity; to do so with pride is to affirm identity, heritage and achievement.” To find out more, please click here.
This week, we’ve had year 7 sitting Cognitive Assessment Tests, school photography, two trips to Kew Gardens for year 10, mentoring training for prefects, and a year 9 workshop on sexual harassment. We have welcomed some new trainee teachers in Geography and Food technology and are looking forward to the launch of the Youth Commission next week including a visit from the Leader of Ealing Council, Peter Mason.

European Day of Languages Celebration
Last Friday, 26th September, we celebrated the European Day of Languages with a vibrant poster competition for our Year 7, Year 8 and year 9 students. The event was a fantastic opportunity for students to showcase their creativity while embracing the diversity of languages across Europe and the wider world.
As part of the celebration, the school canteen offered a special international menu, giving students the chance to taste dishes from different countries.
Throughout the week, students also had the chance to teach their classmates words and phrases from their own languages, highlighting the rich cultural diversity within our school community—a diversity of which we are very proud. We were fortunate to enjoy presentations in Konkani, Albanian, Russian, Somali, Hindi, Malayalam, Marathi, Romanian, among others.

Celebrating National Teaching Assistants’ Day at Villiers
Last Friday, 26th September 2025, schools across the country came together to celebrate National Teaching Assistants’ Day. This annual event honours the incredible contributions that teaching assistants (LSAs) make to pupils, teachers, and school communities. At Villiers, we are fortunate to have a team of highly qualified and dedicated LSAs who consistently go above and beyond in supporting our pupils. If you haven’t already, please take a moment to thank them for the fantastic work they do.
Successful Open Evening for Parents and Carers
The Sixth Form team recently welcomed parents and carers to an informative evening about the post-16 and Sixth Form experience. The event focused on raising achievement, exploring post-18 options and how we support students with their subjects and higher education aspirations.
We were delighted with the great turnout! Parents and carers had the chance to speak directly with the pastoral team and subject teachers, helping to bridge the gap in understanding around post-16 and post-18 pathways, as well as individual student progression. We also shared details of the resources and support available to their child and emphasised the importance of ongoing communication between home and school.
It was wonderful to see relationships being strengthened and to engage so positively with parents and carers. The evening covered a lot of information. As promised, we are sharing some useful links below for parents to explore in their own time:

Punctuality to school
As we begin this new term, we want to emphasise the importance of good punctuality for your child’s success at school. Arriving on time each day not only helps students settle in smoothly and start learning promptly but also teaches them valuable habits of responsibility and time management. Being punctual reduces classroom disruptions and ensures your child doesn’t miss out on important instructions or activities. We are asking all students to make it their habit to arrive to school by 8:20am, so they can avoid receiving a break time detention. Together, with your support, we can help create a positive and productive learning environment where every student has the best chance to thrive.
Penalty notice for Unauthorised Attendance
Parent/carers are reminded that if they take their children out of school for 5 days or more (which do not have to be consecutive) in a 10-week period, they will be liable for a penalty notice from Ealing. Currently the amount payable for the 1st penalty notice is £160 per parent/carer per child which reduces to £80 if paid within 21 days.
If a further 5 days of absence without a reasonable explanation occurs, then a 2nd penalty notice of £160 per parent/carer per child will be issued, with no reduction. If the penalty notice remains unpaid after 28 days, Ealing will consider a prosecution in the Magistrates Court. Further absences after this stage could also result in prosecution.
Please note that penalty notices are issued per parent/carer per child, so a family of two parents and two children will receive 4 penalty notices. Please check our term dates on our website to help you avoid taking your child out of school during term time.
