Message from the Headteacher, Mr Richards
This week, the History department has led multiple trips with year 10 to the Tower of London, year 10 P.E. students have done a hill walk in Surrey, year 7s have been on a reward trip, year 12s have attended a Design consultancy workshop and several of our PGCE (trainee teachers) have successfully finished their placements with us.
Although it’s less commonly celebrated or acknowledged here (though more common in the US), it is Pride month! As ever, the expectation of our students is to live by our school values of Honesty, Equity, Aspiration, Respect and Tenacity but with more of a nod to Equity and Respect in this month. I will be leading an assembly next week to all students about the topic. We know there are some very toxic political ideologies and statements out there at the moment and this can be confusing and upsetting for our students but if there are ever any concerns, please get your child to speak to their form tutor or year team who will be able to help.
The local authority came to ‘quality assure’ our new Aspire provision this week. Aspire is an alternative provision respite service for children who need a short period of time away from their current school in order to reset relationships and expectations. It is part of the package of inclusion our school provides aimed at reducing suspensions and permanent exclusions and we are proud to be contributing to the borough provision having gained their backing on Tuesday. We are very proud to announce that Villiers is a UK Feminista Bronze Action Award winner. We were presented with our award by broadcaster Samira Ahmed last month. This award recognises the work we are doing every day to combat sexism and misogyny. Sexism has no place in our schools and certainly no place at Villiers!
