Message from the Headteacher, Mr C Richards:
As mentioned last week, we’ve had an exciting week of trips including a visit to the Design museum, the Olympic Park and a Virtual Reality experience as well as year 8 parents’ evening, the continuation of year 13 mock exams and some year 11 photography exams which had been postponed from December. We have also welcomed our visiting Chinese exchange students who have been learning all they can about a British education at Villiers.
Next week, we will be hosting some visiting Senior Leaders from Challenge Partners who come in once a year to support us in our self review but also to learn what they can from us to support in their own schools. It’s always a very useful collaborative exercise to take part in and supports us in being the best we can be for your children.

St John’s Inspire Y12 & 13 Programme
We are delighted to announce that the following Year 12 have been offered a place on the St John’s Inspire Y12 & 13 Programme. The Inspire Programme is a free, two-year course designed to inspire, encourage, and support Year 12 and 13 pupils during their final years of study before university.
French & Spanish Spelling Bee 2025
Congratulations to the following Year 7 languages students who are all winners of their Stage 1 classroom competition in French or Spanish! They will receive their certificate in class this week. All of them go through to Stage 2, and have a chance to take part in the whole school competition this term, to find out which students will represent Villiers at Stage 3, the London Regional Competition, on 25th March. Please do take the time to practise with them at home!

This could be for a range of reasons such as poor lighting, lack of CCTV, overgrown trees and shubbery etc.. This information is collated and then issues addressed to make sure that everyone feels safe in their local community.

Penalty Notices
A reminder to families that following the new guidance on school attendance that came into effect from September, new absence fine rates and thresholds at which penalty notices can be considered are now in place. If a family takes their children out of school without authorisation for 5 or more days (which do not have to be consecutive) in a 10-week period, they will be liable to receive a penalty notice from Ealing. This can also include poor punctuality to school without an acceptable reason. Currently, the amount payable under a penalty notice is £160 per parent/carer, which reduces to £80 if paid within 21 days. If a further 5 days of absence occur, parents will be liable for a second penalty notice of £160 per parent per child with no reduction. If the penalty notice remains unpaid after 28 days, the Local Authority will consider a prosecution in the Magistrates Court.
Please note that penalty notices are issued per parent/carer per family so a family of two parents and two children will receive 4 penalty notices. Further absence could also result in prosecution.
We encourage all our families to notify us of any pupil absence, and for every day they are absent as well. You can report student absences or lateness by calling Ms Gough, our Attendance officer, on either 020 8813 8001 or 020 8867 9077, or by emailing studentabsence@villiers.ealing.sch.uk. When leaving a voice message, please ensure that you are using the mobile number we have on our system. If you have changed your number, please let us know.

Pupils canteen accounts
From 13th January 2025, our school canteen will allow a maximum of £5 overdrawn per student on ParentPay. This is to ensure fair and manageable meal provisions for all.
If a ParentPay account balance is below this limit, students may not be able to purchase meals until funds are added. Please keep your account topped up to avoid any disruption or send your child with a packed lunch. This guidance does not apply to children on free school meals.
Spring Term Intervention Schedule for Years 11 & 13
Please find the Spring Term intervention schedule for Year 11 and 13. Sessions began on Monday, January 6th and will continue through Thursday, April 3rd. They will be offered before school, during lunchtime, and after school.
To see if your child has been selected to participate, please check their Google Classroom. If they have been invited, we strongly encourage them to attend these valuable support sessions.

Detention Information
In order to support your child’s learning and keep standards high, we have introduced a new centralised teacher detention. This means that if a student’s behaviour has not improved after several reminders, they will have to sit a 40-minute detention after school.
We want to ensure that communication is made, so an automatic email will be sent to you, and students will sit the detention the next day, giving you 24 hours’ notice.
