Message from the Headteacher, Mr C Richards:
Welcome back! With the winter holidays just a distant memory now (!) we have had a great first week back with our year 13s settling well into their mock exams and some great results for our GCSE resits which were taken back in November.
Next week, our first trips of the new year start with visits to the Design museum, the Olympic Park in Stratford and a virtual reality experience at Navrtar, Ealing. Year 8 parents and carers, please make sure you attend our parents’ evening on Thursday 16th January and get your child to make appointments with their teachers asap.
Some of our students returned to school without the correct uniform, so please familiarise yourself with our uniform requirements on the school website and if in any doubt, or if you need financial support with this, please contact your child’s Head of Year. All pupils have had an assembly on our expectations this week so they should all be familiar with what they should be wearing.

Y11 Psychology trip to Twist Museum
On December 20th, 20 Year 11 Psychology GCSE students visited the Twist Museum in central London to explore interactive exhibits on perception and cognitive processes, enhancing their understanding of key psychological concepts while finding the experience both fun and educational.
Penalty Noice for Unauthorised absences
A reminder to families that following the new guidance around school attendance that came into effect from September, new absence fine rates and thresholds at which penalty notices can be considered are now in place. If a family takes their children out of school without authorisation for 5 or more days (which do not have to be consecutive) in a 10-week period, they will be liable to receive a penalty notice from Ealing. This can also include poor punctuality to school without an acceptable reason. Currently, the amount payable under a penalty notice is £160 per parent/carer, which reduces to £80 if paid within 21 days. If a further 5 days of absence occur, parents will be liable for a second penalty notice of £160 per parent per child with no reduction. If the penalty notice remains unpaid after 28 days, the Local Authority will consider a prosecution in the Magistrates Court.
Please note that penalty notices are issued per parent/carer per family so a family of two parents and two children will receive 4 penalty notices. Further absence could also result in prosecution.
We encourage all our families to notify us of any pupil absence, and for every day they are absent as well. You can report student absences or lateness by calling Ms Gough, our Attendance officer, on either 020 8813 8001 or 020 8867 9077, or by emailing studentabsence@villiers.ealing.sch.uk. When leaving a voice message, please ensure that you are using the mobile number we have on our system. If you have changed your number, please let us know.

Pupils canteen accounts
From 13th January 2025, our school canteen will allow a maximum of £5 overdrawn per student on ParentPay. This is to ensure fair and manageable meal provisions for all.
If a ParentPay account balance is below this limit, students may not be able to purchase meals until funds are added. Please keep your account topped up to avoid any disruption or send your child with a packed lunch. This guidance does not apply to children on free school meals.

Spring Term intervention schedule for Year 11 and 13
Please find the Spring Term intervention schedule for Year 11 and 13. Sessions begin on Monday, January 6th and will continue through Thursday, April 3rd. They will be offered before school, during lunchtime, and after school.
To see if your child has been selected to participate, please check their Google Classroom. If they have been invited, we strongly encourage them to attend these valuable support sessions.

Detention Information
In order to support your child’s learning and keep standards high, we have introduced a new centralised teacher detention. This means that if a student’s behaviour has not improved after several reminders, they will have to sit a 40-minute detention after school.
We want to ensure that communication is made, so an automatic email will be sent to you, and students will sit the detention the next day, giving you 24 hours’ notice.
