Message from the Headteacher, Mr C Richards:
Although we are nearly half-way through January, it’s the first time I’ve had the opportunity to wish you a happy new year! I hope you all managed to have some sort of break and have settled back into routines which tend to keep us going through the dark, dreary and cold mornings. Our students have settled back fantastically well heeding our reminders about uniform and behaviour expectations from last term. Well done!
We have welcomed a number of new staff to the school including Ms Dhaliwal, our new Head of Human Resources and Operational Development, Mrs Reynolds, our new Assistant Headteacher, Ms Lidhar and Ms Chander as School Administrators, Ms Nazimuddin in Computer Science, Ms Galloway in English, Ms Akangbe in Geography and Ms Malik in Maths. Mrs Nagi, our Senior Assistant Headteacher takes over as Head of Sixth form, Mr Silva takes over the coordination of our new focus area and Ms Rathod becomes a learning mentor. We are also delighted to announce that Ms Miriam Ibrahim has also been elected to our Governing Board as a parent governor.
This week, years 11 and 13 have continued to sit some Photography and Fine Art assessments and students who re-sat GCSEs in English and Maths last term received some excellent outcomes on Thursday. Next week we have year 9 teenage booster vaccinations on Monday as well as a parents evening with a focus on options on Thursday from 4pm – 7pm. The first parent talk will be at 4.30pm and the second at 6.30pm. Please make sure you attend if you have a child in year 9.
Support Water Aid
Johan 12E, a passionate advocate for humanitarian causes, recently completed a remarkable run in support of the Water Aid charity. Taking on a challenge that combined his love for running and his commitment to making a positive impact, Johan ran an impressive 3.8 miles in a dedicated effort to raise funds for clean water initiatives.
The run took Johan forty-four minutes to complete. The response was overwhelming, with a stream of donations pouring in to support Water Aid’s mission- a total of £102.67 was raised.
Every penny collected by Johan is destined for the charity, ensuring that the funds will be utilised to provide access to clean water for communities in need.

University of Oxford
Congratulations to Andrew, a Villiers alumnus, who has been offered a place to study Medicine at the University of Oxford. He would like to share the following message: “While preparing for interviews and taking entrance exams there have been moments where I’ve doubted myself, and during these moments I’ve thought back to all the times the teachers, staff and caretakers at Villiers believed in me to succeed. Through all my failures and successes, I was taught time and time again by you to continue trying my best, and to me – this is the greatest gift I could ever receive. I wish you all the best and know you’ll continue to inspire others.”
The Felix Project Charity
We have been working closely with The Felix Project charity who have been providing us with a delivery of fresh food for Friday break times. We often receive other food items which we share out. We have been fortunate enough to receive some weaning food pouches for children aged 4 months to 12 months. If you would like them for younger members of your families, please send your child to room O11 to collect them. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee this every week and also do not know what we will receive in advance as it is a donation which will be handed out on a first come, first served basis.

Haiku contest
The English and DT departments will be receiving entries for the Haiku Contest 2023 – 2024 on the theme of ‘family’. The haiku entry must be accompanied by a hand-drawn or hand-crafted artwork on the same page using A4-sized paper (21cm x 29.7cm) or letter-sized paper (8.5in x 11in). The deadline is Friday 9th February 2024, please see Google Classroom h5sx4oq for more details. Please encourage your child to enter for a chance to win a trip to Tokyo and other prizes.

Rise in measles

School Streets
We are delighted to announce that, following the consultation, the council has approved our school for a school street which will be launched 4th March. Further details in the attached document.
Year 11 & 13 intervention schedule – spring 2024
Please find attached the new Year 11 and Year 13 intervention schedule for the Spring term. It is imperative that students attend the sessions they have been invited to as this will allow teachers to provide them with targeted support in preparation for the mock exams which will take place in February 2024.
Year 10 assessments – January 2024
Recognising that assessment periods can be stressful; we are providing continuous support for our year 10 pupils as they gear up for their January exams. This comprehensive revision booklet offers valuable subject guidance, empowering students to approach their assessments with confidence. Warm Banks
Ealing Council are opening warm banks (also known as warm havens, warm spaces, heat hubs or warm places) this winter, to offer people somewhere warm to spend their time. A warm bank is simply a public space — often a library or community centre — which is open to the public during the day. You can go and spend time there free. You can find details of warm spaces that were offered by community organisations in the borough including contact details, how to get there and facilities provided. Pupil ID cards, lanyards and lunches
There are a number of pupils who have not been wearing ID badges or lanyards at present. This presents a safeguarding issue and also impacts the smooth running of the canteen at break and lunchtimes. If your child or children have lost their ID card or lanyard, please order one from Parent Pay as soon as possible. From this month, if a child does not have their ID card on them, they will be sent to the back of the lunch queue as it slows down the whole service for everyone.
Please also make sure your child’s parent pay account is regularly topped up so that they are able to purchase food at lunchtime. A number of students come to the canteen without any money on their account and expect to be fed. We will always make sure that students are fed in an emergency as a one-off but it is expected the account is topped up immediately following this. Please provide your child with a packed lunch if you are unable to top up the account in the first instance.
If your child is entitled to Free School Meals, this will already be on their ID card. If you believe you may be eligible for free school meals, please check here and fill in the form. If there are any other hardship issues, please contact your child’s Head of Year and we will look into this with you. Year 11 and 13 reports

The Big Ambition
The Children’s Commissioner has launched The Big Ambition survey to understand what children want ahead of the next General Election.

It is vital that all children have their voice heard through this survey, as it provides a much-needed opportunity for the children of England to tell political decision makers what is important to them ahead of the General Election. This is a great opportunity to teach children about politics and why it is important for them to use their voice.

We are a cashless school and families can pay for school meals, stationery, trips and clubs via ParentPay. You can top up your ParentPay account from a bank account or by using a debit/credit card. If you do not have a valid bank account or debit/credit card, please email info@villiers.ealing.sch.uk. We will set up a PayPoint account, so you can make payments using cash.
